Coverings

In this series, Coverings, I explore intentionally hidden spaces or objects. Although the hiding is often practical—from weather damage or theft protection—the coverings transform the objects and spaces. Often handmade, these coverings express creative enterprise. Wrappings suggest painted drapery.  Rope ties suggest drawn marks. My subject are genuine—none are altered, only seen and recorded. I pair the actual cloth coverings with images of carved coverings—drapery from headstones. The pairing invites viewers to consider both the transformational and metaphoric function of veiling. These images were all taken in the state where I live, Rhode Island, during the summer of 2023. They are digital images and will be printed in black and white.
